The Head of the House

The Office & Its Current Holder

The Head of the House is a permanent constitutional office. It exists independently of any individual who holds it. This page sets out the nature of that office and introduces the person who currently serves in it.

The Office

The Head of the House

Nature of the Office

The Head of the House is the principal executive office of the House of Hearts. It is a permanent office established by the Constitution — it does not cease to exist when one holder departs and another is appointed. The office is continuous; the holder is not.

The Head holds executive authority on behalf of the House. That authority is conferred by the Constitution and exercised within the limits it sets. It is not personal power — it is institutional authority held in trust, subject to the same trust doctrine that governs the House as a whole.

Holding the office of Head does not confer any personal title, rank or honour. A future Head may hold no title beyond the office itself. Any personal title held by a current or former Head is separate from the office and does not attach to it.

Responsibilities

Executive Authority

The Head acts in the name of the House in all executive matters, implementing decisions of the institution and directing the affairs of the Head's Office in accordance with the Constitution.

Constitutional Stewardship

The Head is responsible for upholding the Constitution in the exercise of executive authority, acting within its limits and ensuring that the executive branch operates in accordance with its requirements.

Institutional Representation

The Head represents the House in its formal dealings and is the public face of the institution. This responsibility is carried on behalf of the House, not in a personal capacity.

Direction of the Head's Office

The Head directs the work of the Head's Office, which supports the exercise of executive functions. The Head is responsible for the conduct of that office and accountable for its actions.

Engagement with the Council

The Head engages with the Council in the deliberative processes of the House, receiving its counsel and acting in accordance with the constitutional relationship between the Executive and Advisory branches.

Accountability

The Head is accountable to the Constitution of the House of Hearts. No holder of the office is above its provisions. The Head's exercise of authority is subject to review by the Tribunal in accordance with its constitutional jurisdiction.

The Head is also accountable to the trust doctrine. Authority exercised in the name of the House must be exercised for the benefit of the institution, not for personal gain. Concerns about misuse of authority are addressed through the procedures provided by the Constitution.

The Marshal exercises the procedural and authentication responsibilities assigned by the Constitution. The Registry maintains official records, while the Archives preserve the House's institutional history.

Succession & Continuity

Continuity of the office is governed by the Constitution and its succession procedures. The office belongs to the House and continues beyond any individual holder.

Current Holder

His Majesty The King

Currently serving as Head of the House of Hearts

The current holder of the office also holds the personal title of King. This title is his own — it is not conferred by the office of Head, and it does not attach to the office. A future Head may hold neither this title nor any other.

About the Current Holder

The King is the founding Head of the House of Hearts, having established the institution. As founder, he designed the constitutional framework of the House and has served as its Head since its establishment.

In his capacity as Head, the King exercises the executive authority of the House in accordance with the Constitution. His personal title of King is held separately from the office and reflects his own standing, not a function of the position he holds.

The King is committed to the Charter and Constitution of the House of Hearts, the Doctrine of Enduring Purpose, and to the instruments and governance of the House, believing that the House must outlast any individual within it. His founding purpose was to build an institution governed by principle rather than personality — one that will endure beyond his own tenure.
